Top 50+ Candy from The 80s

The 80s was the era of Rock, jazz, Bright colors, ripped jeans, long hair, and a lot of candies. It was a time when the regulation on sugar use is not so strict and we can buy a variety of homemade candies anywhere. The best thing about the time was the adaptation of the old generation to the rapidly changing new emerging techno-loving world. The word computer was just an electronic computing device specific to educational nerds. And smartphones were only possible in science fiction. Although one thing that always remains real were the popular Candy from the 80s.

Those who were born in that era were in their 40s and 50s now. Most of them still live their vivid memory of all those changes and especially candies. Don’t worry if you are new, many of those memories can still be relived. Having long hair or mullet or maybe ripped jeans is not so convenient these days. Although you can start with some delicious all-time favorite candies, especially from the 80s.

Though there are many more that I have never tried, so listing them as best or worst is not my thing to do. It is up to you to decide which one you like and which is not up to the mark. First of all, you must try at least the few you can and share them with friends and family for fair judgment.

Airhead candy

The Airhead candy became popular soon after its launch in 1986. The brand introduced candies like Airhead bite fruit and Gum White Mystery. The variety, price, and quality make it popular among students. It was very tasty and quite affordable.

Runts

Runts fruit candy was introduced in 1982 by Nestle. It was a popular candy during Halloween. Although the most popular fruit flavors especially Watermelon and Raspberry were introduced late in the 90s. This candy is still available to try on in a few stores. So go grab one for a change.

Candy Cigarettes

These were the ultimate candy for every 80s kid. It gives a feeling of adulthood and a feel of charm among peers. Holding the candy like an actual cigarette makes it a commercial hit, i.e the look and attraction of this candy, not the taste. Though there were many variations available, the most popular ones include bubble gum, chocolate, and sugar candy cigarettes. It became popular among youngsters due to its exclusive appearance. The same look makes it a flaw and a matter of fear among adults.

Nerds

Nestle made the Nerds candy in 1983. It was an unusually shaped tiny cany. No one ever thought of the success of this sweet candy at the time of its launch. Although the result was quite different and unexpected. Nerds became the Candy of the Year in 1985. This was one of the most sold candies in the year 1985, recorded by the National Candy Wholesalers Association.

Rainbow Nerds

Skittles

I can’t imagine a single day without Skittles. Whenever I feel sad or happy or alone, I grab some skittles and chill out my emotions. But it was not always there. They were not present before 1974. The first Skittles were launched by a British company in 1974. It took at least 5 more years for this candy to come to North America. Since 1979 Skittles became an integral part of every convenient candy store all across North America.

Final Words

There are plenty of Retro candies that became popular during the 80s and many of them eventually lost their charm. After all these years only a few have maintained their popularity with occasional ups and downs. My favorite was the candies like Hershey Chocolate bars, M&Ms, Gummy bears, Goo Goo Cluster, Skittles, Nerds, and a few more.
