Simply add more flour or cocoa powder or try some easy hacks to fix the runny cake batter. There are many different ways to fix cake batter if you accidentally make it too thin. But first of all you need to figure out what kind of thinnest you are dealing with.

You should follow the instructions of making cake batter properly and take measurements accordingly. But if still, you are feeling like the batter is a bit runny then you should find out the perfect solution to fix it. Adding flour or cocoa powder is everyone’s favorite. Even I use to add cocoa powder or flour if I need to fix my batter.

This is one of the easiest solutions to thicken a cake batter. As flour is easily available at your home you can easily use it anytime. But the main thing is to mix it properly without forming lumps.

We all know adding flour will make the batter thicker but most of the time it gets too thick. Or many people complain about lumps, when they start adding flour to the batter it didn’t get mixed well. Now, this is the actual problem is. You should take care of a few points while mixing flour to the batter.

At very first I use to add 2-3 full spoons of flour then start mixing it, this technique makes batter thick with lots of limps. Which will latter get all messed and you’ll have to face many difficulties to fix it.

To properly blend it with the batter you can add a very small amount at a time. Add half or 1 tablespoon flour if your batter is too thin. Otherwise, help or quarter will be enough to make it thicker.

I recommend adding fine strained flour. Spread the flour on the batter then slowly mix it with whisk or spoon. Putting lots of flour at a time in the batter and mixing it will never work. I have tried each and every way and found that adding a very less amount at a time is the best way.

I prefer straining flour on the batter while mixing it. Slowly strain and spread white flour on the batter and mix it. In this technique, you will never end up with lumps or thick batter. Add flour until you get that perfect consistency. This method is also best because you do not have to change the flavor to fix the consistency.

Add cocoa powder

Cocoa powder is another alternative of flour when it comes to thickening the batter. You can add cocoa powder to your cake batter if it is a chocolate cake batter. Keep checking the quantity while adding it as I already have said that measurement is very important for making a perfect cake.

You can use the same technique of adding flour in this also. Take a tea strainer and put 1 tablespoon cocoa powder in it and then strain it on the batter. Mix it slowly as you mix the batter, no need to do anything in hurry.

Be careful and do not over mix it. Over mixing a cake batter can make your cake dry and crumbly when baked. Mix slowly and until the powder gets mixed well.

Cookies can save Your batter

If might sound weird but believe me cookies can do wonders. If you are making chocolate cake then it’ll be easier for you. As chocolate cookies are the most common type of cookie that can be available in almost everyone’s place.

What you have to do is- just take 3-4 cookies and grind them into powder. And now you can do the magic. Just strain the powder over the batter slowly. Then mix it using a spoon and keep adding until you get a perfect consistency.

You can do this with your favorite cookies but it’ll be best if you’ll add the same flavored cookie as of the cake batter.

How to thicken Batter without flour?

Add dry pudding mix or cornflour, cocoa powder, or eggs to make your batter thick without flour. If you are running out of flour but need to fix the cake batter, this is what gonna help you.

As I already have stated above, you can add cocoa powder to the batter. It is one of the easiest ways to thicken a batter. But be sure if you are making any flavor other than a chocolate cocoa powder will change it. So, be ready for the change.

Cocoa powder to thicken a cake mix works best for the chocolate cake batter. I prefer adding flour if I am making any other flavor cake. But there are a few more alternatives to flour for fixing cake batter.

 Egg Whites

eggs can be another great alternative. You can dd beaten eggs to fix your runny cake batter. I usually beat egg whites and add the fluff to the batter. This technique not only thickens the batter but also makes your cake super soft.

Pudding Mix powder

If you don’t have eggs at your home search for the pudding mix. Readymade pudding mix will thicken it and will make it more delicious. Make sure you are adding a pudding mix flavor of your choice. If non of the mentioned things are available, you can also add cornflour to it.

But cornflour can change the texture and consistency if added too much. I will avoid using cornflour if my cake batter is too thin.

Biscuits or Cookies can fix runny cake batter

If you do have a pudding mix, or eggs, or anything, you can use biscuits or cookies. And I am damn sure you will have at least biscuits in your kitchen. But the question is, what can we do with biscuits?

You have to grind some biscuits or cookies to make a fine powder. And mix it to the cake batter in a small amount to make it thicker. Be careful while adding and mixing. Dor no do it in hurry slowly add small amounts at a time and mix it properly.

NOTE*

You can do this with thin crispy waffles and wafers too. you just have to grind it into powder and add it according to your need.

Keep in mind, not all cake batter has to be thick. There are some cakes you can make only with a thin batter. To get the perfect textured cake you must have proper knowledge of what kind of cake you are making and what should be the consistency of the cake.
